Nokia N98 with GPS (concept)

Here is a great photoshop effort from the French: the Nokia N98 with amazing features including an integrated GPS receiver just like the N95 (Nokia N98 high resolution).

Here are the made up specs for this made up phone:

* 7.2 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens
* 5x optical zoom (20x with digital)
* 3.5″ inch touch screen
* integrated GPS receiver
* integrated TNT receiver (Télévision Numérique Terrestre - this is what French call digitally broadcast TV channels)
* Symbian S70 3rd edition
* 3D graphics accelerator
* bluetooth
* Wi-Fi (b,g,n)
* HSDPA
* video recording at 720×576 and 30fps
* Multimedia support

5x optical zoom made us laugh the hardest. It is not mentioned in this list but I’m sure the N98 will be able to handle microSD cards and have a battery that lasts 12 hours on a single charge.

Congratulations for the amazing art work though.

Nokia N98 new threat to iPhone

Nokia N98 has been sighted on the net and will be released really soon according to Nokia France specification sheet. Despite it’s earlier claims that iPhone is no threat to lucrative NSeries smartphone multimedia computer business, Nokia was really frightened by it and started scrambling for an answer literary the next day. Result of that is new Nokia N98 who really looks like Apple iPhone, but when you look at specifications there is huge advantage over iPhone. So we might look at new mobile phone war in which only consumer can benefit by better products and new technologies.

Nokia N98 specifications:

* 7.2 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens
* Optical zoom x5 and digital zoom x20
* 3.5 inch VGA 16 million color touch screen
* GPS
* Symbian S70 3rd edition (now that would be something)
* Graphics accelerator
* Bluetooth/WIFI b+g+n/HSDPA

As you probably know, April 01, otherwise known as April Fools, is the most important day of the year for tech news outlets and various gadget vendors. This is the day that vendors announce or otherwise leak to the press their most important developments and products for the next year to come. This year is no different and today we are doing April Fools news roundup.

Chinese portal 163.com reports that Nokia N98 has been sighted on the net and will be released this May. Despite it’s earlier claims that iPhone is no threat to lucrative NSeries smartphone/multimedia computer business, Nokia was really frightened by it and started scrambling for an answer literarily the next day. The leaked pictures of Nokia N96 and their own concept videos received a lukewarm consumer reaction and their flagship Nokia N99 is still years away. So Finnish cellphone giant decided to license an Onyx Concept Design from Synaptics and transform it into Nokia N98 multimedia computer with a full touchscreen user interface and tactile feedback.

In related development found via Darla Mack, Gadgets Town reports that that Nokia has purchased iPhone trademark for 1.5 Bn US$ from Apple and will start rebranding its mobile handsets into nPhones from this fall.

At first, the information that Apple is selling it’s iPhone trademark seemed a little suspect, but the news uncovered by The Register helped to explain the situation. Turns out that after joining the Apple’s board of directors last August, Google CEO Eric Schmidt started a relentless campaign for both companies to join forces on a common project. These efforts finally bore fruit on April 01, 2007 when companies leaked the information on a new cord based device called “ID” that will boost Apples sales and help Google’s contextual advertising business.

Yahoo also announced that it will launch its own yPhone which will be designed around a central portal service, allowing users to surf the web from a desktop page styled much like the online Yahoo homepage and will provide multimedia content via new yTunes media download service.

In a knee jerk reaction to these rapid developments in mobile arena, Microsoft indicated that for the next version of it’s mobile OS they are abandoning their proprietary software practices and are looking for Linux developers to take it’s mobile platform to the next level.

Other important news from yesterday include:

New ultra portable PC called Toshony R2D2. According to Mobile Review this device will have 1.5″ LCD screen with a special lenses for visionimpaired, a thumbscreen to be operated exclusively by your thumbs and Bluetooth 2,0 module with Enhanced Data Superslow Rat and external cooler fan.

Always original Russian designer Art Lebedev has produced a very promising new portable gadget - Vilcus plug dactyloadapter. It’s an adapter for fingers especially developed for those who like closing the electrical circuit with their own fingers, to get a kick out of a direct contact with AC power supply.

And if, by accident, you get paralyzed using Arts dactyloadapter, don’t worry. Swiss scientists have developed a telepathic helmet that can read your mind and write your thoughts to the computer. Technology isn’t perfect yet - e.g. using while hungry leads to stray thoughts about food to be jumbled in - it is improving rapidly and the helmet will be able to produce thought images soon.
